Beauty: Holiday Skin Cheatsheet

Holiday season can be tough on our skin. First it is cold, that bitter bone-dry wind just suck all the moisture of our skin. My nose usually just peels and peels like snake. Plus going out to holiday parties drinking, eating not the best food possible, and staying up late does not help at all. Eye bags, acne, dull skin usually results from that unless you have amazing genetics. This is the time of the year where we see the most people and our skin usually looks the worst without any help. So here is my fail-safe skin care routine to get your skin looking amazing under half an hour!

  1. Double cleanse

One of the biggest game changer in my skin routine during the rough dry months is double cleansing with moisturizing cleanser. Usually that means an oil cleanser following up with a moisturizing foam cleanser

My favorite ones at the moment is Ciracle Absolute Deep Cleansing Oil, Botanic Farm Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet  and CosRx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Foam Cleanser.

  1. Bubble mask

On days where my skin looks a bit dull, bubble mask does the trick. Those little bubbles magically give my skin a glow again. It is like I went to get a facial done in 5 minutes! If I am using a bubble mask I replace my foam cleanser with this instead.

My HG (II went through bottles of this) is Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask. Plus on days I can barely get out of bed, this mask is a great “wake me up”.

  1. Fruit enzyme peel

On those really really bad days where my skin feels like sandpaper, a lovely fruit mask smooths it right away. I love fruit masks because they gently exfoliate without any harsh chemicals like traditional chemical peels. You would not have to hide for a couple of days as your skin peels.

You can easily DIY this with some papaya or pineapple. Just put chop it up and put it in a blender until smooth. Leave on your face from 3-15 minutes depending on your skin sensitivity. Just make sure your first time using this is not on any special day in case of any reactions. And remember sunscreen, no matter how gentle this mask is, it is still a peel!

  1. Hydrogel eye mask

Eyes really play a big part on how awake you look. These hydrogel gel eye patch are an amazing quick fix. Right before any big event or if I missed more sleep than I want, these are a life-saver. It feels even more luxurious if you leave these babies in the refrigerator.

My Favorites one currently are The SNP Bird Nest and Botanic Farm Salmon Egg hydrogels.

  1. Sheet Mask

No list is complete without a sheet mask. There are so many varieties out there that you can pick and choose depending on what your needs are. Since it is Winter, I suggest any hydrating, brightening, evening skin tone and even anti-aging mask right before going out. Then I finish with a moisturizer. To save time I double up doing the eye patches and sheet masks at the same time.

I personally like lighter masks because my skin can get quite oily. My go to mask currently is My Beauty Diary Strawberry Yogurt or Green Apple. If your skin is drier I suggest hydrogel masks. My mom loves the Missha Super Aqua Cell Renewal Snail Hydrogel Mask.

  1. Sleeping Mask/Pack

I know it is not conventional to use Sleeping Masks during the day, but on those extra dry days, I do not leave the house without it. Plus when it is cold, that means there is a heater nearby drying our skin out even more. Sometimes I even use Sleeping Masks like a primer. It creates a smoother canvas so I can achieve a more flawless look.

If I just want hydration Laneige Water Sleeping Mask works perfectly. Plus it is not as sticky as either Sleeping Mask so my skin won’t be oily.

  1. Pearl Powder

Ok this is my most kept secret that I am revealing here. Whether I am going barefaced or wearing makeup, I always finish with pearl powder. It works great as a finishing powder, eliminate any extra shine from the products without looking all matte and has anti-aging/acne care benefits. It’s amazing, it is like a finishing powder that is good for your face.

Most of the time I do everything in sequence alternating between 2 and 3 two hours before I need to head out for an event. It always leaves me skin feeling and looking amazing.

I hope these skin care tips work for you too! Let me know what is your fail safe trick! Happy Holidays 🙂
